Am I Depressed? Updates.

Clinical depression is a mood disorder characterized by persistent sadness, loss of pleasure, or loss of interest in most activities. It often has biological, genetic, and environmental roots. An estimated one in five people will experience a major depressive episode at some point in their lives.

Depression is not a sign of weakness or a character flaw — it is a medical condition that responds well to treatment. Updated research continues to confirm that a combination of psychotherapy and, when appropriate, medication offers the most effective relief for many people.

If you have been feeling persistently sad, empty, or hopeless; have lost interest in activities you once enjoyed; or are experiencing changes in sleep, appetite, energy, or concentration, please consider reaching out to a mental health professional.
